Andrew Carnegie- He was probably be jealous because it was bigger than his own and both of them were the richest men in America but he was always competing with the Vanderbilts.

Hello my name is James Duke and I think that this house is a perfectly fine idea for the Vanderbilt's. Just letting him know though I am going to build a bigger and better house. Everyone is going to be coming to my house instead of his. I have lots of money because I am rich because I was suppose to be rich. I'm going to build things better then everyone else.

What a flashy house. It seems a bit large for 3 people, though. I could have used it, and may have bought it. It's very beautiful, and I commend Mr. Vanderbilt for his taste. It's truly a marvel worthy of one like us. We worked hard and deserved our fortunes, it's only reasonable that we should be able to redeem our labors.

Personally, I do not think it is fair that the Vanderbilts have all of this money. They didn't work for it. I work hard everyday to earn my money, and the fact that I have a different skin color prevents me from making anymore money than I already do. Blacks are discriminated against day by day. Just because we weren't born white, or born into a wealthy family we have to live with the title of "the lower class". All because of Social Darwinism, I will not be able to afford a house like this ever. Vanderbilt is taking advantage of other people and their money. It is not fair to the rest of Americans.

Hello my name is Cornelius Vanderbuilt and I am extremely proud of my son and the house he built. He is a very hard working man and he deserves anything that he wants. He did a fantastic job building an amazing home for his family.

This house is a little over done and unnecessary. In my opinion I would have used my wealth in a better way if I were Mr. Vanderbilt, like helping my five children with their education. Most people assume that Mr. Vanderbilt did not work very hard to achieve his wealth, unlike most of us who work hard each and every day. Personally I think this house is a waste of space and money. Although, I noticed that the Vanderbilt house is currently the talk of the town and it may be a great subject for my next political cartoon.

Emma Goldman- I don't appreciate how the super wealthy are taking advantage of the extremely poor and then wasting money on themselves. This house is just a slap in the face of the american working population. Showing them how their work is exploited for supreme elaborate and expensive wastes such as this.

Hi my name is William Jennings Bryan, and i highly disagree with the Vanderbilts luxury and wealth. I think its a waste of money and space for only 3 people. I dont like how they show off the money that they never worked for and i dont like how they think they are better than everyone else, i think instead of wasting their money on stuff they arent ever going to use they should use that money to help the poor.

I believe this is an irrational way of spending money and is almost spitting on the small people that are working for a pittance. I am more on the side of socialist and am also a union leader. I believe in everyone getting the same living, I call it the “American” standard of living. What my philosophy is, is I want higher wages, better conditions at workplaces and giving everyone a good opportunity to make a life for there own family. Money should be distributed evenly, the fair way of living.

This house is a marvelous piece of work but I do not think that Mr. Vanderbilt needs to be spending all that money on things that are not necessary. He could of put that money to better use and help others. He does not deserve all this money; the government should disperse the money more evenly. There are many hard working people that can barely afford to eat. This is outrageous.

My name is Marry Jones, people call me mother Jones. I think this whole thing is stupid! I don't not agree with it. There is only THREE people in that huge house. They don't need that big of a house. Who do they think they are to make themselves look better than everyone else, because they aren't. No one needs a house that big. That is ridiculous. All they are trying to do is make people strive to want big houses. They should be spending their money on something that is useful. Whoever is okay with this then you have a problem.

I am W.E.B DuBois and I think that it’s ridiculous for one person to spend so much money on a house for three people. It’s even more ridiculous when I’ve worked hard to earn my doctorate from Harvard and he hardly had to work at all for all of his money. It makes me angry to see them waste time and money on a house that they probably won’t even see every room. The least they could do is use the money for a good cause or invest in something more realistic.

I am Karl Marx, and have you seen the size of that house?! It is outrageously large, why in the world would any family of 3 need a house that large? I believe that we all should live by communism which says we all should have the same. He hardly even worked for his money! No one should have any more money than the rest, that is what communism is, everyone is equal. This isn't his only house either! They should have built a normal house and helped other with the rest.

I am Adam Smith. That house is way too large for 3 people to live in. A good 2-3 bedroom house would suffice that family. That much luxury for not many people is outrageous. We all should be equal and work for out money. He did not, he barely did anything and was rich enough to have a house with so many things not needed in a home is completely out there. This house could has 250+ rooms in it and there are so many poor or not privileged people that need a place to stay.. yet only those 3 were allowed in the home other than guests. This is completely un-necessary.

This house should not be for this man. It was built from money that was stolen from others. Just because you have the money does not mean you need to create something to show your status. This house only could have been made from manipulation of others who worked hard for their money. There are people who work harder but still do not have money for food. You can be rich and have a reasonable sized house.

I am Boss Tweed and this house seems wonderful for a small town, but for the size of three people it is somewhat ridiculous. I think the architecture it amazing and the way he designed it each and every room unique to what he wanted it to be was fantastic. Though it’s a bit outrageous for my specific taste. People are out there with less than a jacket of their own and this man has practically a caste for himself.

I believe this mansion is a masterpiece, and utterly beautiful. I greatly admire his work and anyone who doesn’t needs some special help. There’s not denying just how amazingly the house is put together. Throughout the entire mansion there is a fantastic flow from room to room. You would be crazy to think otherwise of such a phenomenal creation. He has worked hard and has most definitely earned every single cent he has gotten. For someone who has worked as hard as he, for what reason should he not be allowed to spoil himself and his family in such a luxurious home. Someday, I hope for my children to be as successful as he.

Hello my name is Upton Sinclair, I just wanted to say I think this house is useless. You only have 3 people living in a huge house. Now why would you need a huge house for only 3 people, yes you might want to show off your wealth but I think that it is pointless and useless to do that. You could have put that money towards something else, other than your huge house that you have. You should be like the other people and have built a normal house, and like I said before put the money towards something else that could have been more useful than a huge house!

Personally I think this house or should I say work of art is spectacular. I think it was a job well done and money well spent. The owner of this house deserves every bit of luxury the house has to offer. Anyone can be rich, so those that are at the top deserve to be there. And if being at the top means living in this glorious building and showing off your wealth then I say congratulations.

I cannot hear a comment about this "spectacular" work of art without feeling guilty. I think that we should be spending the money on the welfare of our country's agriculture. Personally I think it is more important to make certain that everyone gets enough to eat, than selfishly constructing huge homes with enough room to house an army, when no more than three people are living in it. All these aristocrats want in the end is to be well known. Instead of being well known by their extravagant homes, they could be celebrated for sponsoring our country's new plans for agriculture.

I believe the Vanderbilt deserve this house they earned it. They did everything right to earn this vacation home. I believe in social darwinism as in if you do all good in your life and do hard work you will eventually "make it." So this house it form hard work and doing the right thing.
